Just as documents are foundational features of contemporary social life, collecting and anlaysing documents are ubiquitous practices within ethnographic research. Today, a research fieldsite that offers no documents or documentary data is an exceedingly rare one.

Despite the ubiquity of documents analysis within ethnographic research there remains a dearth of practical, methodological and epistemologically grounded guides for ethnographic approaches to documents.
